# Neya

> Neya helps people meet up with others who live near them. You tell Neya what
> you'd be up for doing locally, she puts you in small local groups of people
> who want the same, and when somebody suggests a plan she helps it actually
> happen: the day, the place, who's coming, the reminder the night before.

Neya is a UK app (iOS, Android and web), made by Rob Chapman, Josh Wreford and
Harry Hobson. It launched in Oxford and is growing town by town.

## What makes it different

- It is not a feed, a noticeboard or an events directory. The unit is a **plan**
  — something a few people have agreed to do together, on a date, in a place.
- Neya is an assistant inside the group chat, not a social network. She notices
  when a conversation is turning into a plan, asks the group to settle a day and
  a venue, checks who is coming, reminds people, and asks afterwards how it went.
- She never decides for anybody and never marks a plan as having happened by
  herself. People answer; the plan moves.
- Groups are small, local, and made of real named neighbours. There are no
  anonymous accounts.

## The words Neya uses

A plan is "just an idea", then "coming together", then "it's happening", then it
"happened". Somebody keen but not yet committed is "up for it". The question
Neya asks is "Can you make it?", answered with "I'm coming" or "Can't make it".
