Neya Community Guidelines
Last updated: 4 November 2026
Neya exists to get you out of the chat and into real life with people nearby. That only works if people feel comfortable showing up. These are the basics, in plain English. They’re part of our Terms of Service, which have the full legal detail.
Neya is for adults. You must be 18 or over to use it.
In the app
These rules cover chats, profiles, groups, plans and conduct outside Neya involving members where it affects their safety or our community.
Be decent. No harassment, hate, threats, bullying or discrimination, including abuse based on race, nationality, religion, disability, age, sex, sexual orientation or gender identity. No stalking, tracking, following someone home or repeated unwanted contact.
Be yourself. Use your real first name and a recent photo of you. Don’t pretend to be someone else, or lie about your age.
Keep it about the group. No selling, spam, recruitment or unauthorised promotion, including MLMs. No scams, dishonest money requests, investment schemes or financial exploitation.
Don’t be a drag. You don’t have to be rude to make a group worse. We may step in if someone:
- keeps messaging a person who has gone quiet or said no
- pushes people to move to WhatsApp, Instagram or DMs when nobody asked
- takes over the chat, or keeps derailing it
- keeps flaking on plans (see below)
No unsolicited dating. Neya is not a dating app. Do not pursue or make sexual advances towards someone who has not shown interest. Respect consent and stop when asked. Sexual harassment or misconduct is prohibited online and in person.
Respect privacy. Ask before photographing or recording someone and before sharing their image, personal details or private messages. Do not share intimate images without consent. Do not make malicious or knowingly false reports; an honest report is welcome even if we cannot substantiate it.
Show up, or say so early. If you cannot make it, cancel in the app at least 24 hours before. A no-show or later cancellation may lead to one £3 fee, only under section 6.10 of the Terms. We use attendance evidence, give notice and a chance to challenge before charging, and provide human review. Exceptions include changed or cancelled plans, being unable reasonably to find the group or feeling unsafe. Illness, emergencies and other good reasons may justify a waiver; successful appeals receive a full refund. Repeated unexplained no-shows may lead to an account review.
Block and report anytime. Blocking someone stops them messaging you directly. Neya also keeps you apart: she won’t suggest you to each other, invite you to plans the other is hosting or going to, or put you in a new group together. We don’t send them a notice that you’ve blocked them. A block doesn’t remove anyone from a group or plan you’re already both in. If someone you’ve blocked is going to a plan and you’d rather not go, drop out and tell us why: we’ll waive any no-show fee. Use Block on their profile or in a chat, and Report on a profile or message, or email moderation@joinneya.com. If you feel unsafe, report them too and we’ll help. You can see and undo your blocks in You → Blocked people. Reports are handled confidentially as far as reasonably possible, subject to legal and investigation needs.
In person
Meet safely.
Neya helps coordinate plans but normally does not host or supervise them. We do not run venues or verify members’ identities or criminal records.
Take sensible precautions; this does not remove Neya’s responsibility for its own service:
- Meet somewhere public, especially the first time.
- Tell a friend where you’re going and who with.
- Get yourself there and home on your own.
- Look after your own drink.
- Keep your address and personal details private until you know someone.
- Trust your gut, and leave whenever you like, no explanation needed.
Respect boundaries. No touching without consent, pressure to drink, weapons or illegal drugs. Do not propose unlawful or unreasonably dangerous activities; we may remove unsafe plans. Confirm bookings, costs, capacity and changes with the group. Do not bring extra guests without agreement. Only bring children to plans that expressly allow them, and supervise them throughout; Neya provides no childcare.
If you’re in danger, call the emergency services (999 in the UK) first. We can’t offer live support during a meetup.
If something went wrong, email moderation@joinneya.com, or reply to Neya’s message after the plan. It helps us look after the next group.
What happens if guidelines aren’t followed
We usually use the steps below, choosing a proportionate response to what happened. Serious or urgent risks may require immediate restrictions or removal:
- A nudge. A friendly note explaining what went wrong.
- A warning. It’s recorded on your account.
- Removal. You’re removed from a group or from Neya.
Some things skip straight to removal: violence or threats, sexual assault or harassment, spiking drinks, sharing intimate images, anything that sexualises or exploits a child, scams, sharing someone’s private details to harm them, using Neya while under 18, and returning after you’ve been removed.
We assess reports and relevant evidence, prioritising serious risks. Multiple reports do not automatically establish wrongdoing. We’ll usually tell you if we take action on your account, and how to appeal. We may not give details, for example where that could put someone at risk, identify who made a report, or affect an investigation. We may act on relevant off-platform misconduct. We cannot promise a fixed response time or live meetup support.
If you disagree with a moderation decision or how a report was handled, email moderation@joinneya.com. A person will review your complaint or appeal.
For concerns about a child’s safety, see our Child Safety Standards.
